State of Missouri Grant Matches Your Contribution
to Honor Missouri Korean War Heroes and Koreans who Fought Beside Them

With your help and in partnership with the State of Missouri, the Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial organization is working to raise $700,000 to commission a bronze sculpture to complete the Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial at Washington Park in Kansas City, Mo.

A State of Missouri Grant will match every contribution dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million to build the sculpture.

Two figures – a Korean War weary United States Marine and a Korean refugee holding a small child – will be sculpted in bronze at 134 percent of life size.

The extraordinary sculpture honors both those who fought and Korean civilians who persevered to preserve and build a free Republic of Korea. The memorial honors Missourians who fought in the Korean War, especially 900 Missourians, including 100 from Kansas City, who gave their lives in the war. The memorial also recognizes 47,000 Republic of Korea soldiers and more than one million South Korean civilians killed in the three-year war. More than 37,000 Americans were killed in the war and 103,000 were wounded.

The sculptures will stand atop granite bases weighing 9,000– 12,000 pounds. Additional bronze plaques recognizing donors who make the sculpture a reality, lighting, and walking paths will be added to the memorial site.

Together, we can make this important addition to the State of Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial a reality, and create a lasting tribute to our heroes.
